The Foundation awards postdoctoral grants of maximum 24 months to researchers who have obtained their PhD from Cambridge or their DPhil from Oxford and who wish to carry out research at the ULB, as well as to researchers who have obtained their Doctorate from the ULB and who wish to carry out research at the University of Cambridge or Oxford.
These fellowships are granted in line with the Foundation’s objective, which is to promote and strengthen the ties between the Université libre de Bruxelles and the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford.
They are open to researchers in all fields of research.
The call for applications for 2025-2027 will be launched in December 2024, but you will find below some preliminary information. Please note that the frequency of our call for applications is annual (December 2024 for the period 2025-2027, December 2025 for 2026-2028…).

To be eligible, applicants must:
- Not have resided, worked or studied in Belgium for more than 24 months in the 3 years prior to the beginning of the grant period (this is a condition required by Belgian authorities for granting a “bourse de mobilité”).
- Have completed all requirements for their DPhil from Oxford (leave to supplicate) or PhD from Cambridge (the official confirmation that you may graduate at the next appropriate Congregation) no later than 31 October 2025 and after 1 October 2020.
The fellowship is for minimum 12, maximum 24 months, and can be granted only once. It must start between 1 October 2025 and 1 January 2026. The grant period finishes in all cases on 30 September 2027 at the latest.
Fellows are selected by the Scientific Committee of the Foundation.
HOW TO APPLY
The call for the 2024-2025 academic year will be published on our website in December 2024. Applications will have to be received by Monday 10 March 2025 (noon Belgian time).
You will be required to submit:
- A personal statement
- A summary of your research project
- A description of your research project
- A detailed CV
- A copy of the PhD/DPhil Examination report (if already available)
- A copy of your university transcripts and of your diplomas
And three letters of reference, including one from you thesis supervisor and one from your host promoter at ULB.
FUNDING
The fellowship is a “bourse postdoctorale de mobilité” (approximately 2,400 euros net/month), which entitles the recipient to social and medical cover.
To be eligible, applicants must have fully completed all requirements for a PhD from the Université libre de Bruxelles no later than 15 October 2025 and not before 1 October 2020.
The fellowship is for minimum 12, maximum 24 months, and can be granted only once. It must start between 1 October 2025 and 1 January 2026. The grant period finishes in all cases on 30 September 2027 at the latest.

FUNDING
Fellows working at the University of Cambridge or Oxford will receive a “subside à savant” (£2,450/month).
Please note that a “subside à savant” is a non-taxable research grant which does not provide for social or medical cover in Belgium (no contributions are paid for the duration of the grant).
