Benefiting from the gradual return to normality, on June 23 the Wiener-Anspach Foundation organised an award ceremony in honour of Helena Placentino, 2019/2020 Fellow of Ganshof van der Meersch Prize.
The prize was created in 1994 to honour the memory of Professor W. J. Ganshof van der Meersch and celebrate his contribution to Belgian and European Constitutional Law as well as the decisive role he played in the development of the Foundation. It rewards the merits of a student with an exemplary academic record and who earned their Master of Law degree at the ULB, specializing in public and international law.
The ceremony took place at the Rectorate of the Université libre de Bruxelles, in the presence of Professors Annemie Schaus (Rector of the ULB), Julie Allard (Dean of the Faculty of Law) and Didier Viviers (President of the Wiener-Anspach Foundation), who presented the award to Helena Placentino. Professors Kristin Bartik, Eric De Keuleneer, Luc Lemaire and Anne Weyembergh also attended, together with Violette Cadars and Francesca Spinelli from the Wiener-Anspach Foundation and the parents and brother of Helena Placentino.
Helena Placentino studies law, with a focus on European law, public international law, and their interaction. She has taken part in projects such as the ULB Equality Law Clinic, specialized in non-discrimination law, and has spent six months in China in 2019 in the framework of an exchange programme. She is now enrolled in the Specialized Master in European Law at the Institute for European Studies at the ULB.
